Jules, I just found these early models of the binaural stethoscope. really beautiful but frightening looking as objects, I thought:

thanks mandy.
i was looking at some of nikki's stuff that is similar. its interesting how our scientific inventions start out imitating bodies. maybe i should be looking at that stuff more.
i love to look at old instruments, gadgets, things outmoded in some ways, but so beautiful.
yeahhh, I love looking at these too.
'n Jules, yeahhh its the rubbery tips that hood the strategically placed extremeties of Nikki's sculpture that I really love looking at. The solidity in her pieces, & the solidity of the metal arms in the stethoscopes really feel like they are holding something, and tightly, but are devices of pleasure more than torture.
I can see what Helen meant by her impression of your objects being the latter, but I think that's mainly because the objects have a bit of dirt--which I kinda like-- and residue from their former use. (and I guess, of course, because they're hanging on the wall.)
both avenues are really interesting; can't wait to see more experiments.
